Mayor Riley Acquires Painting For City Of Charleston

On his last day in office after 40 years, Mayor Joseph Riley added Carol Joy Shannon's painting, "the holy city" to the permanent collection of the City of Charleston (SC). The painting includes the majority of Charleston's several dozen historic churches, including the "Mother Emanuel" AME church where Charlestonians were shot at prayer. Mayor Riley was the leader of the city through that and many other challenges over his 40 years in office, including Hurricane Hugo and the restoration of America's most treasured historic city.
